Make Craft Kits - the gift of creativity in a jar

Create craft kits in a jar. Use this stash busting idea to give the gift of creativity in a jar. Plus you are recycling and clearing the way for new things. That is what I am doing this Easter and consider it a triple win. We used to give gifts of books and a chocolate bunny to the nieces and nephews when they were little. Now they like picking their own books and I really don’t like to give gift cards unless I am out of time or ideas. This year I decided to give the kids creativity kits in a jar. You can really give these craft kits any time of the year. They are great for a rainy day or a snowy weekend.

Supplies for craft kits in a jar:

mason jars or random glass jars
paint
paint bush
random rub-ons
embellishments pearls, buttons, brads, rivets, stick on pearls, beads, paper flowers, fabric strips and anything else you can think to add.

Instructions for craft kits in a jar:

Wash and clean the jars and their lids then hand dry them or air dry. Once the lids are dry give them a base coat of white or cream paint. Allow the paint to dry.
Paint the lids a similar color to the contents. I plan on giving each child 2-3 jars. I also dry brushed on a light layer of white paint to give it a distressed finish.
Apply rub-ons of your choice to the jars and if you don’t have any rub-ons add stickers or paint. This is about using things you already have and encouraging creativity at the same time.
Stuff the jars with color coordinated bits and pieces. To the jars I added, pearls, buttons, brads, rivets, stick on pearls, beads, paper flowers, fabric strips and anything else I could find in a color that matched.
Once the lids were dry I added embellishments to them and the fronts of the jars in coordinating colors. This is the schedule for the whole year and you can join us when you can.
