A 15 minute teacher gift is about all I can squeeze into my schedule and into my budget. Not that I don’t appreciate teachers. Because believe me, I do! I could never do what they do day in and day out. The least I can do is make them a gift they can use. The lanyard can be customized to their favorite colors or to the school colors. A 15 minute lanyard is the perfect gift for a teacher. Lanyards are perfect to hold id cards and keys. They also make nice gifts for coaches to use with whistles. You can use supplies from your stash, recycle an old shirt or use precut strips from a package. I used left over precut strips from another project to make this diy lanyard. Since I used precut strips I actually made two in 15 minutes. I use steam with my iron and it gives really crisp edges so I did not need to pin the strip together before sewing. You might need pins. Materials for 15 minute lanyard:
- One precut fabric strip or a 3×36” cut strip
- 1″ swivel hook
- scissors
- Iron, ironing surface
- sewing macine
- coordinating thread
- needle
- pre-made crochet flower (optional)
- two buttons (optional)
Instructions for 15 minute teacher gift – a lanyard
- Cut a strip of fabric to 3 x 36 inches. Press flat.
- Fold in half lengthwise and press the strip to create a crease in the center of the strip. The crisper the edge the easier to sew.
- Open the strip and fold the outer edges in. They should touch the center. Press again, keeping the edges crisp.
- Using a straight stitch sew the edges closed. Approximately an 1/8″ Stay as close to the edge as possible. Repeat for other side.
- Wrap end around metal piece and sew edges down. Stitch a square with an X through it to secure.
- Add embellishments as desired.
