Candy corn tights and t-shirt – easy to dye fall clothes. Candy corn is not just for eating you know. In this house we wear it too. I like making my daughters clothing, well not actually “making” but dying and embellishing purchased or hand me downs. She asked me for a candy corn dress and I could not find a plain white dress to dye so I opted for a shirt and tights. She was quite pleased.
Materials for Candy Corn Tights and T-shirt:
I make a small commission if you make a purchase
- Rit Dye in Tangerine and Lemon Yellow
- White cotton tights
- White cotton t-shirt
- hot water
- covered work surface
- plastic gloves
- squirt bottle
Directions for Candy Corn Tights:
- Prepare Lemon Yellow Rit dye according to manufacturers directions. The hotter the water used the brighter the color.
- Wash tights and t-shirt to removed any residue. Remove from washing machine and dip in the heated yellow dye bath. Repeat for the shirt. Squeeze to remove excess dye.
- Fill a squirt bottle with heated orange dye and pour above the yellow. Be careful of drips. You will need to lay on a flat covered surface to dry.
Tips for dying:
- When dying fabric take care to cover your work surface and wear gloves.
- To enhance the color: add one cup of salt when dyeing fabrics containing cotton.
- Wet the item you are going to be dyeing and add it to the dyebath.
- Stir slowly and continuously. The first 10 minutes are the most critical. Stirring helps to ensure an even color with no splotches.
- Keep the fabric in the dyebath for at least 30 minutes to ensure that the color takes fully.
- Rinse in cool water until rinse water begins to run clear.
- I like to tumble dry. Then wash in my machine. Run an empty cycle through your machine before you run a load with clothes.
I had to share a few more pictures. And I love the expressionon this one.
