Chic Embossed Ornaments
Each Christmas season I am invited to several ornament exchanges. I toil about what ornaments to bring to the exchange. I wonder if the recipient will be a traditionalist and do only red and green? Will they be a mish mash tree person or are they like me and do a themed tree? Buying a gift for the unknown drives me crazy. I like to put a lot of thought into my gifts. I try really hard to pick just the right gift. Then I decide I was placing too much pressure on myself for something that is supposed to be fun. That was when I decided I would make the ornaments. About 8 years ago I came up with the first version of the ornaments and they were made with copper. The next set I made was also out of copper but I placed a patina on them. All were gorgeous, For the Ornament section of Crafts N Things Magazine I cam up with the Shabby Chic version the chic embossed ornaments. The recipient of this set plans to use them as decorations in her windows since her house is kind of a Beach Chic meets Shabby Chic. I was so excited when I found out that she could use them year round.

Directions for Chic Embossed Ornaments
STEP 1
- Cut metal sheeting slightly larger than mold. Tape metal embossing sheet to mold to prevent slippage.
STEP 2
- Working on a mouse pad or foam, use stylus to trace all lines of pattern to emboss. Start with smallest stylus and work up to larger tools. Use larger tool for retracing lines to better define design.
STEP 3
- Turn sheet over onto foam surface.
STEP 4
- Use Paper Thumb to rub between indented lines to emboss spaces between lines in other direction, adding dimension to design.
STEP 5
- When embossing is complete, fill back of design with spackle. Let dry.
STEP 6
- Cut a piece of chipboard to same size as mold. Wrap and glue embossed piece around chipboard. Let dry.
STEP 7
- Paint front with desired color. When dry, lightly sand for a distressed look.
STEP 8
- Cover back with felt. Use Crop-A-Dile to punch hole in top of ornament. For hanger, thread ribbon through hole and knot ends. The chic embossed ornaments were fun to make and even better to give.
