Christmas gift packaging ideas that you can make. I love making handmade wrapping paper, gift tags and gift boxes. Each year I chose a theme for all the presents. This year I am using fabric and paper from Doodlebug. I purchased both the fabric and the paper online. The instructions and a materials list will be posted all next week. I was so excited to share my homemade Christmas packaging ideas with you that I could not resist sharing immediately. Make sure you stop back next week for all the information!
The first package that made is a tote for my niece. I am going to fill it with nail polish and lip gloss. She can use it as a purse next holiday season. Not only is it pretty packaging it is a great gift too.
The main portion of the bag is felt and the fabric is sewn to it. A rosette was made with a strip of fabric and sewn on with a button embellishment.
The next item I made is a gift card holder using Doodlebug paper and 3-d stickers. The cute box is is a die cut from Sizzix.
The next homemade item on the list is an appliquéd wine bag. The wine is a gift for the in-laws. Jute was an expected material and I like to add something different when creating. I edged the ornaments with a blanket stitch, glued on ribbon and made bows to give it a little dimension.
For the kids stockings I recycled a Starbucks bottle and decorated it with paper and painted the cap. I made two dozen of these. The kids like to give them to their friends and I like to have a stash of them on hand for last minute thank you gifts. If you keep the theme wintery instead of Christmasy you can use them through Valentines Day.
A quilted gift sack is next up on the list. When possible I like to make packaging that can be reused. This year I tried a new to me technique. I made a fabric scrap piece of patch work fabric. After I sewed all the scraps together I made tote bags out of them. My daughter loved it so much she asked me to make her a pillow out of it. I will include that picture too.

Baking and candy making are two other things I like to do during the holidays. Giving the food in a pretty package makes it taste oh so much better. I used to make caramels with my grandmother and I can remember packaging them in pretty boxes covered with wrapping paper. Back then there was not all the beautiful scrapbook paper available. If my grandmother were still here I know she would love the gift box I made below. I bought a dozen of the boxes for $10. The tasty treats will be given to the teachers and staff at my sons elementary school.
You can see the detail on the tag in the photo below. I love using dimensional stickers for gift tags. Keeping the packaging simple allows for making multiples in one afternoon.
The last and final project is a quick and super easy felt gift tag to hand on a wine bottle. We keep a stash of tags and wine on hand for the last minute hostess gift. We usually give white wine for our friends whose wine preferences we do not know.
