When I got an email from Thoughts From Alice asking if I’d like to participate in the Holiday Thrift Store Challenge, I didn’t hesitate to say, Yes! I love thrifting and a challenge. We were asked us to venture out to our local thrift store and procure anything for under $25 to use as holiday decor in a creative way. We could give these items a complete makeover or use it/them in a creative vignette. To see beyond the surface of what someone discarded or no longer needed and think outside the box. She wanted us to show you, our readers, how to save money on holiday decor by using a little creativity. When I told my mother the plans she was all over the idea.
Pretty soon I am going to have to set her up as a contributor to the web site. This is her 5th and 6th project in the last month. She made a video the other day Duck Tape Candy Cane Inspired Wreath, She is totally smitten with the Chalky Paint from DecoArt and used it on the metal frame and the glass jar. The DIY Shabby Chic Picture Frame is supposed to be a gift for my little sister but we will see where it ends up. (I have a feeling it will be in my mom’s bedroom.) The item was found at the thrift store. She paid $.29 a piece for it. She loves to go to the thrift store, especially on Monday. The store closest to our house has half price on almost everything that day.
The frame and the jar are part of a blog hop. All 30 of the bloggers were asked to redo something from the thrift store that could be given as a gift for the holiday or used as holiday decorations and my mom made a DIY Shabby Chic Picture Frame.
The supplies use to make a DIY Shabby Chic Picture Frame:
- Chalky Paint by DecoArt ( two colors and cream wax to seal)
- Paint Brush
- Tack cloth
- Sand paper
- Crystals and Pearls
- Jute cording
- Scrap fabric
- AdTech Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
The other bloggers are linked below. Make sure you check out what they made and get inspired to make some gifts and home decor for the holidays.
