DIY wine bag? Why yes you can and it is pretty easy. Make easy sew wine bags with a few simple steps and supplies. This is one that I do not make a pattern for and simply wing it. I measure the bottle the bag is being made for. It is straight line sewing with no fancy stitches. I add a couple of inches to the top and one to the side. My rough measurements are two 20″x 9″ pieces of fabric. I did a little extra and used two patterns of fabric. You do not have to do this to get a great look. The bottle on the inside is what’s important.
Supplies for the easy sew DIY wine bag:
- Sewing machine and coordinating thread
- Scissors
- 2 fat quarters of fabric or two 20″x 9″ pieces of fabric
- Muslin if you want a white interlining
- Solarize Interlining two 20″x 9″ (this will help to keep the bottle cool and provides a little extra padding)
- Instructions for the easy sew DIY wine bag:
1. Cut your fabric, lining and Solarize to size. Layer your fabrics. Sew your lining together, right sides together, all down one side, across the bottom and on the other side. BUT on one of the side seams, leave a 4 inch gap for turning the bag later on.
2. Keeping the bag inside out, fold back the collar and sew across the width of the bag (tuck the rough edge under for a cleaner look) stopping ½” before the edge of the bag.
3. Turn bag right side out to reveal the unsewn edge of the collar and sew it closed to create a clean hem for when you fold it over.
4. Turn the bag the right side out through the gap in the lining, then close the lining.
5. Either neatly hand-stitch, or be lazy like me and simply top stitch the gap closed by machine. The recipient will be more interested in the inside of the wine bottle than the inside of the bag!
Decorative Ties – Supplies for the DIY wine bag:
- Cording
- Plastic Ornaments
- AdTech Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Scissors
To make the Decorative Ties for the DIY wine bag:
1. Separate the top from the ornament. Cut the cording to size.
2. Place coring into opening of cap. Add a dollop of hot glue on the inside of the cap and adhere to ornament. Repeat for each end and each bag.
