I will never forget last year December 23rd. Me and my sister were nursing a warm cup of tea or cocoa or something when my niece walked in and announced that it slipped her mind that she was supposed to bring 25 small gifts for her annual sorority Christmas Eve celebration. Wait, what? We thought she was kidding. No, among finals and winter formal and everything else, ‘it just slipped my mind.’ We went into high gear trying to figure out what we had, what we needed and what we could put together in less than 24 hours, 25 times. Since we live in a small town, the closet big box craft retailer is more than 1 hour away. We were at the mercy of what we had on hand. Remembering this quick stamping technique from years ago, we quickly created these sweet gift pouches.
Supplies for gift pouches
- Red shimmer fabric
- Rubber Stamp- snowflake themed
- Americana Acrylic Paint (DecoArt): Butter
- Cream sheer ribbon
- Starfire glitter (Sparkle N Sprinkle)
- Jingle bells
- Craft felt
- Pinking shears
- Sewing machine and matching thread
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Instructions for gift pouches
1. Use pinking shears to cut 6″x18″ from fabric. Fold fabric in half and sew up both sides to make a 4″x9″ pouch.
2. Create a “stamp pad” by folding the craft felt into fourths and squeeze approximately 2 Tbsp of Butter paint onto surface. Stamp large snowflake image onto stamp pad, then onto pouch. Sprinkle with glitter and let dry.
3. Fill small plastic bag with homemade drink mix and place inside pouch. Tie with sheer white ribbon and attach jingle bell. Place in mug filled with shredded red paper if desired.
Tips and Tricks
We filled our pouches with a signature gourmet cocoa mix. But here are a few ideas for stuffing your stamped gift pouches.
- Tuck in some fun vintage games. Kids and adults alike will get a kick out of learning to play Jax or brushing up on those old skills. A deck of playing cards like old maid would also be fun.
- Make a mini art kit for crafty/artsy friends. Bits of ribbon, trims, ephemera, baubles and bits will inspire them.
- Other kitchen mixes such as soup mix’s, spice rubs and cookie mixes are always welcome. Pour them into small plastic bags and insert into the pouch.
