Supplies for vintage holiday wreath:

• Dow STYROFOAM Brand Foam wreath, 16”
• Muslin, 1/3 yd.
• Coffee filters (basket style)
• Jute twine 48” length
• National Nonwovens Cottage Red WoolFelt
• Christmas-themed vintage image
• Wooden circle, 2”
• Prima White Flower Centers
• Adhesive-back rhinestones
• Artificial holly berry spray
• Red bulldog clip
• Rit Liquid Dyes: Apple Green, Scarlet, Tan
• DecoArt Americana: Snow White Acrylic Paint, Silver Glitter Writer
• Holiday sentiment rubber stamp

Instructions for a vintage inspired holiday wreath:

 

Directions to dye materials for the wreath.

1. Tear muslin into 3″-wide strips. Remove excess strings. Tear one 1″x12″ muslin strip (for hanger). Wearing latex gloves, mix one tablespoon of Apple Green dye with one cup hot water in gallon-size mixing container; stir thoroughly with spoon. Submerge 3″-wide muslin strips into dye bath. Leave in mixture for five minutes; remove and discard dye bath. Rinse strips under cool water; squeeze out excess dye, then wrap in old towel to remove excess water. Hang strips to dry.
2. Cut freeform leaf shapes from remaining muslin scraps. Create dye bath containing one tablespoon Apple Green dye with 1/4 cup hot water. Drybrush leaves using paintbrush; set on paper towels to dry.
3. Repeat process to dye jute twine, using 1/4 teaspoon of Scarlet dye with 1/2 cup hot water. Hang jute to dry. Mix one tablespoon of Tan dye with 1/2 cup hot water; submerge wooden circle and 1″x12″ muslin strip (hanger). Let sit for five minutes. Remove pieces; squeeze out excess dye and water from muslin and hang to dry. Place circle on paper towel to dry.

How to make flowers for the holiday wreath:

1. Cut out center bottom of several coffee filters. With pencil, trace 2″, 2-1/2″, and 3″ circles on filter bottoms; cut out. Mix dye bath of one teaspoon of Scarlet dye with 1/2 cup hot water. Submerge circles into dye bath; let soak for one minute. Remove circles with tongs and place on paper towels to dry. Mix dye bath of 1/2 teaspoon Scarlet dye with one cup hot water. Submerge remaining cut away portions of coffee filters; let soak for one minute. Remove and let dry on paper towels.
2. When circles are dry, outline each with Silver Glitter; let dry. Wrap dyed filter bottoms into spiral flower shape; adhere ends with tacky glue. Stack and layer circles together to form flower shape, adhering with tacky glue.

How to make holiday wreath:

1. Apply fabric glue on one end of muslin strip. Begin wrapping wreath with strips, adhering with fabric glue and overlapping edges as needed. Wrap jute twine in criss-cross fashion around wreath. Use fabric glue to secure ends as needed.
2. Use tacky glue to adhere coffee filter flowers on wreath. Adhere rhinestones and White flower centers on center of flowers. Use tacky glue to secure berry spray on wreath. Adhere leaves around flowers and adhere using fabric glue.
3. Use computer and printer to print Christmas-themed vintage image or wording on cardstock; size to 3-3/4″x4-3/4″. Trim Cottage Red felt to 4″x5″. Use sewing machine to sew image onto felt using straight stitch. Stamp sentiment using black pigment on wooden circle. Press rhinestones on circle. Adhere circle onto image using tacky glue.
4. Drybrush red clip Snow White. Let dry. Attach clip onto top of image and through twine. Insert tan hanger around top of wreath; knot ends.
