These super cute owls treat totes are fun to look at but even more fun to make. The owl treat totes are made from recycled cardboard tubes, they can be filled with fallish treats such as candy corn and caramel popcorn (see our other ideas below). We cut a paper towel roll into 6” sections, about the size of a toilet paper tube, to make more than one. So gather up some felt, paint and wire to create these kid-friendly treat totes. Instructions for owl treat totes
1. On a covered work surface, paint recycled tube inside and outside Georgia Clay or Moon Yellow. When dry, bend to close one end for bottom and glue together. Hold in place with clothespins while drying.
2. Use scallop-edge scissors to cut 1″x7″ felt strips with only one edge scalloped. Use straight-edge scissors to cut remaining long edge. Starting at the bottom, glue strips on the tube, layering pieces in alternating colors. Use four colors for each owl. Cut 4″x3″ felt strip with straight-edge scissors and cut one long length into an oval shape for the wing. Repeat for the remaining wing. Glue wings on the owl.
3. Cut three 1″ triangle shapes from orange or yellow felt (for beak and ears). Glue beak and ears on owls.
4. Glue 1/2″ button onto center of 2″ button. Glue wiggle eye on the center of 1/2″ button. Glue eyes on owls.
5. Adults, help kids when using a hole punch and wire cutters. Punch holes on either side of the tube. Cut 8″ wire length and insert through holes, bending ends on inside to secure.
