Mod Podge Serving Tray DIY in bold colors using wrapping paper, Mod Podge and paint. I’m pretty sure everyone has used it at some point in a childhood art project. I fondly remember the giant jug always out on the counter in the art class. One of my favorite ways to use Mod Podge is the traditional way – to decoupage paper to wood. bold bright Mod Podge serving tray
I made a bold bright serving tray that is perfect for breakfast in bed or as a gift all by itself. I used two of my favorite products to create a tray. Basic Mod Podge to adhere the wrapping paper and Mod Podge Dimensional Magic to create a glossy finish that is easy to wipe off.
Supplies for the Mod Podge Serving tray:
- Walnut Hollow Wood serving tray
- Ceramacoat Paint
- Mod Podge
- Mod Podge Dimensional Magic (x2)
- Brushes
- wrapping paper – I picked mine up for $.50 from the clearance isle.
- scissors
- X-ACTO or craft knife
- Sandpaper and tack cloth (optional)
To make the Mod Podge Serving tray:
- Sand any rough spots and remove dust with a tack cloth.
- Paint the wood tray in your favorite color combinations. I used a pearl on the inside and matte on the sides. Sand if needed and apply a second coat of paint if you need more coverage.
- Trim the gift wrap to fit in the center of the tray. You can try to get it exact or use the craft knife to remove the excess once it has adhered to the bottom.
- Apply a layer of Mod Podge evenly along the bottom and place the gift wrap on top. Gently smooth out any bubbles. Allow it to dry before adding the next layer.
- Pour contents of two bottles of Dimensional Magic to the center of the tray covering the entire surface. Allow it to dry thoroughly.
I covered mine with a loose piece of foil to keep out dust. Once it is dry and cured until firm you can use it and I let mine sit for 24 hours to give it plenty of time to cure.

I had no idea there was a National Mod Podge Day! I am definitely marking this on my calendar to craft up a celebration next year 🙂 I am always reaching for my Mod Podge for crafty projects – and to get a nice, crisp edge when I’m stenciling!
