An adorable painted unicorn clay pot Easter basket you can make in 15 minutes give or take a few minutes for dry time, that is perfect for any age. After Easter it can be used as a catch-all or a decorative accent. The terra cotta pots are cheap and easy to find. These clay pots were on sale for $1 at Lowes and when combined with basic white acrylic paint, paper flowers, gold duck tape and a black marker you have 3 pots for under $9. I had the flowers, duck tape and marker in my craft stash so I spent $5 all together and had white paint left over.
My daughter was excited at the finished unicorn clay pot. She did most of the work. I drew the eyelashes on in pencil and the cut the first unicorn horn and she did the rest.
Supplies for the unicorn clay pot easter baskets:
- clay or terra-cotta pots
- covered work surface
- white acrylic paint
- paint brush
- pencil
- black sharpie or other permanent marker
- paper flowers and glue I used hot glue
- duck tape
- scissors
To make the unicorn clay pot easter baskets:
- Cover your work surface and brush any debris off the clay pots
- Flip the clay pots upside down and paint. The pots absorb the moisture quickly so work fast to avoid streaking. Add a second coat if desired.
- Flip the pots over and paint the rim and the inside if desired. I paint about two inches down from the top.
- Once the pots are dry glue on the flowers.
- Draw on the eyelashes with a pencil. This will help get them even and the same size.
- Use a marker to thicken the eyelashes.
- Fold a piece of duck tape in half. Cut a horn shape out of the tape.
- Place the cut piece on the sticky side of another piece of duck tape. The double layer makes the horn stiff and stand up straight. Trim off the excess but leave an inch or two to stick to the inside of the pot.
- Enjoy your unicorn clay pot!
