Making a Faux Ceramic polymer clay pendant tile is not as difficult as you might think. You can make the tile in any size you want. There are five main ingredients to use to make the faux ceramic tile. A stamp, polymer clay, liquid polymer clay, alcohol ink and glaze. An oven, cutting tools, nonstick work surface and a stir stick are also needed. But those are kind of a given. Faux ceramic tiles can be used in jewelry, mixed media art and for lots of other items. Below is a photo tutorial on how to make the “Faux Ceramic” part of the pendant.
Supplies for faux ceramic tile pendant:
- A stamp
- polymer clay
- liquid polymer clay
- alcohol ink
- glaze.
Directions for faux ceramic polymer clay tile:
- To make the polymer clay tile pendant you will need to condition your clay according to manufacturer directions.
-
Roll clay through pasta machine. Do not roll to thin or you might stamp through the clay.
-
Stamp image into the clay and remove rubber stamp. Trim off the excess clay.
-
Bake the clay for half of the baking time suggested. Allow to cool before applying the ink.
- Add a Dollap of liquid polymer clay.
- Add a drop of Pinata Alcohol Inks in blue.
- Add a few drops of the alcohol ink in green.
- Allow alcohol ink to rest 5-10 minutes before stirring.
- Adjust color if needed let it rest before stirring.
- Stir in color completely.
- Apply color to the clay tile.
- Coat the entire tile with the mixture.
- Bake approximately 12-15 minutes
Once the clay tile has cooled you can sand any rough edges. If you are using a pinch bail you can press a hole into the tile before baking or use a 1/16 hole punch after baking. Apply a coat of glaze and allow to dry before inserting the pinch bail. ( I like to apply a dab of glue to secure the pinch bail.)
