The Unicorn hoop art with iron on vinyl is the perfect way to add a fun design element, some color and stay on budget. My daughter’s birthday present request is to have some new art added to her room and staying on budget being the biggest perk for me. My daughter loves unicorns, Alicorns, Pegasus and earth ponies and the Unicorn hoop art with iron on vinyl is easy to make using the Cricut and an SVG file.
Grab your favorite iron-on vinyl, a free cut file, and make this cute hoop art from a recycled t-shirt. I used glitter iron-on vinyl, but you can use whichever iron-on or HTV you’d like. You can also modify the cut file in Cricut Design Space to create a design that is uniquely you.
Bonus Giveaway!
This week only, enter to win a fantastic bundle of iron-on vinyl and an EasyPress. The giveaway is sponsored by Cricut, however, the project and opinions are my own. See the end of this article for details on how to enter.
Tips for SVG Unicorn file:
When you’re preparing your mat for cutting, the most important things to remember when using Iron-On is to:
- Click the “mirror” function on so your design can be flipped over to iron on to the fabric.
-
Place the iron-on material SHINY SIDE DOWN on the mat. Cut with your fine point blade and weed out excess portions with your weeding tools.
Instructions for Unicorn hoop art:
To get started go into the design space and select your image or add an SVG file you found on the internet like I did. I was going to create my own but found this one when looking for inspiration.
- Size your cutting file and move the design to the top section of your vinyl. This will save the rest of your vinyl for use later.
- If you’ve double checked that you have turned mirror on, click the green “Continue” button.
- Set the cut settings to “Iron-On” (turn the dial for a Cricut Explore series machine, or for the Cricut Maker select Iron-On in the selection boxes or by choosing “view all materials.”
- Once your design is finished cutting, weed away the material you don’t need from the shiny backing sheet and position your design on the clothing.
- Put the weeded piece of iron-on directly on the fabric with the carrier sheet still attached.
- If you have the official Cricut EasyPress guidelines for time and temperature. Or if you are like me and using a regular iron turn it to the highest setting without steam. Soon I will save up enough for the EasyPress! Warm up the surface that will hold the HTV.
- Cover the entire thing with a pressing cloth, scrap fabric or parchment paper to protect your surface. PRESS for 20-30 seconds. Do not move the iron around.
- Flip over and PRESS for 20-30 seconds on the backside. Do not move the iron around.
- Remove the carrier sheet while still warm.
- Place in the hoop and center. Then flip over and trim off excess.
There you have it – a lovely piece of Unicorn Hoop art on a recycled t-shirt. Check out all the stuff below and don’t forget to enter the giveaway. I wish I could!
